Member School Duties

Having a welcoming and accepting school and classroom atmosphere is a very important feature of KoAm’s member schools. We ask that teachers encourage students to extend a welcoming and kind heart to our exchange students, who are experiencing a brand new way of life at a young age and allow some room for adjustment.

KoAm Member Schools play a crucial role in recruiting host families! They connect prospective host families to KoAm. KoAm provides a variety of resources (i.e. flyers, newsletter articles, etc.) to complete this important task, and is available to present at any school or church event. After families have applied, KoAm may ask member schools for a reference to confirm the family is a good member of the school community.

KoAm exchange students come to the U.S. under the student (F-1) visa program. KoAm will provide the necessary information to issue I-20s and assist at every step of the way. Once the I-20 is issued and sent to Korea, exchange students are able to apply for a student visa.

KoAm Member Schools works with KoAm in deciding which classroom to place exchange students. In order to ensure the total immersion of KoAm students into American culture and language, KoAm places one student per classroom, and request that there are no other native Korean speaking students present.
