How It Works

Before the Exchange

In Korea

KoAm conducts thorough screenings to ensure every 4th-12th grade student knows basic English and demonstrates exemplary academic and mental proficiency. Once selected, our students receive training and preparation for the exchange.

In USA

KoAm partners with host schools to recruit, select, and screen host families. Students and host families are matched based on age of siblings, requests, common interests, etc. Host families attend an orientation to prepare for students.

KoAm introduces students and host families via email and encourage open communication
(via phone or video call).

During the Exchange

Host families welcome students at the airport within a week of starting school. KoAm area coordinators first visit every new family within two weeks, then regularly check in throughout the exchange. KoAm’s national coordinator travels to local KoAm communities, producing fun, cultural celebrations for everyone to come together.

After the Exchange

Students are welcomed back with a party presenting awards and certificates of completion. They are also provided continued support from KoAm. Students and families are encouraged to stay in contact and often visit each other or return for another term.
