Filling out the school questionnaire is an essential step that helps KoAm set up the program for the school. The area coordinator will provide additional forms and documents including host family application forms and Host Family Reference forms that may be distributed to interested host families.
The school informs its school community about KoAm student exchange programs through newsletters and flyers. KoAm will provide sample articles. Having a KoAm representative hold an informational seminar at the school or set up an informational table during the school’s open house is a great way to inform your school community. Inviting your school community in joint efforts to enhance your school environment with global exchanges. Meanwhile, KoAm will start marketing your school to prospective exchange students in Korea.
Now, the school starts recruiting host families! Talk to families that may be interested and qualified to host an exchange student. Encourage families to host and discuss the benefits of hosting and supporting an international environment and population at your school. You may want to utilize your school website, newsletters, parents association, and include your school’s church congregation. When you find a qualified, potential host family, simply provide their contact information to KoAm’s area coordinator. From this point on, KoAm will guide the family throughout the whole exchange process.
During the matching process in which KoAm assigns an exchange student to one of your host families, KoAm will send you the student’s profile. KoAm will also inform you of the host family that we think would be a good fit for a particular student. KoAm welcomes the school’s opinion in this process.
Our exchange student comes to the U.S. under the student (F-1) visa program. KoAm will provide the necessary information to your school so that you may issue the I-20. The student in Korea will take the I-20 to the American Embassy and obtain the visa to come to the United States.
Your student finally arrives! The host families greet their students at the airport with the presence of our area coordinator to assist in the welcome. KoAm will provide a Teacher’s Guide to your school to prepare and aid in the cultural exchange of welcoming a student to your school and classroom. Classroom teachers will find this informative guide very helpful. Your KoAm area coordinator is available 7 days a week to answer questions or address any concerns that may arise. As the days go by, you will find something great has been done for the exchange student and your students through your participation in our exchange program.
