How to Become a Host Family
Contact KoAm at administrator@koameduall.org or phone (800-521-6640) to inquire about the program. We will send you our host family information package via email for more detailed information.
Click here for a link to the application. Once completed, KoAm will send the following documents:
- Host Family Agreement
- Two Host Family References
- Publication Waiver
You may scan, mail, or fax these documents to KoAm’s main office, or submit them during the home visit (Step 3).
After receiving the initial application, KoAm staff will contact you to set up a time to visit your family. During this visit, a KoAm Area Coordinator will go over the details of the exchange experience, discussing any questions or concerns you may have. With your permission, our coordinator takes pictures of your family, the residence, and the bedroom where the student will be staying. The application and the visit help KoAm find the best student to match your family!
When we find an exchange student best fitted for your family, KoAm will send the student’s profile. This includes pictures of the student and information about their personality, interests, and hobbies, written in short answers/essays by the student. After reviewing the profile, we ask that you contact us with any questions or concerns, and let us know if you would like to host the student. KoAm will address any concerns, or find another student better suited for your family.
Once you approve the student, we provide your information to the student’s Korean family. If our Korean family agrees, the match is successful! We ask both families to contact each other via phone, email, or video chat to get to know each other. The better acquainted you are before the exchange, the better prepared both parties will be.
KoAm staff conducts an orientation, preparing host families for students’ arrival and stay. We go over the Host Family Guidebook and address unique needs and issues that may arise.
Your student arrives in the United States! Host families greet their students at the airport with welcome signs. Your KoAm Area Coordinator will be there to make sure everything runs smoothly.
